Irish vocal group Celtic Woman has announced another exciting concert tour of the United States during 2009. The tour is scheduled to start February 13th in St. Paul, MN and will visit more than 70 cities through July 2nd. Tickets to a majority of the concerts went on sale December 15th, but some tickets for May-July may not be available to the public until March.
The 2009 Isle of Hope Tour was announced in late 2008, and will feature a blend of original music from composer David Downes and Brendan Graham (the author of the group favorite You Raise Me Up), renditions of songs such as "Fields of Gold" and "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and traditional performances of "Danny Boy", "The Sky and the Dawn and the Sun" and "Spanish Lady".
The group currently comprises vocalists Chloe Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Lynn Hilary, and new member Alex Sharpe along with fiddle player Mairead Nesbitt.
The group is supporting its current best-of release, "The Greatest Journey: Essential Collection." Recorded under the musical direction of David Downes, the set gathers material from the group's previous releases, along with four new songs ("The Call","Pie Jesu", "Ave Maria" and "You Raise Me Up"). The LP follows last year's "Celtic Woman: A New Journey," which was filmed at Slane Castle in Ireland, and captures the ensemble's second on-stage production.
The Isle of Hope tour will visit most of the major U.S. cities and venues. Multiple performances will occur in many of the larger cities like Chicago, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Seattle. The final performances will be under the night sky at the spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheater at Morrison, Colorado.
